Everything you need to know about Matcha tea and more.
El matcha tea plays a fundamental role in today's healthy drinks, although it is ancient, there are still many people who do not know it and that is why our “Matcha-man” Mateo González, founder and co-owner of Hidden Coffee Roasters, tells us Show all your secrets below.
What is Matcha?
Matcha 🍵 in Japanese has a very special meaning: “powdered tea”. This exquisite powder is obtained from the finest green tea leaves, which are delicately ground. Matcha tea is an authentic source of antioxidants and vitamins that provide countless benefits for our health and well-being.

The process of making Matcha tea is a tradition. In the lands of Kyoto, green tea plantations are carefully covered for 20 days before harvesting. This increases the concentration of clorofila, theanine y caffeine in the leaves, delaying their growth and giving them a sweet flavor enriched with amino acids.

Collection and process.
The collection of the leaves is carried out with great care and manually, selecting only the best. These leaves, after being collected, are spread for drying. At this point, the dried leaves, known as “tencha”, are ready to be infused in water and consumed. The creation of authentic Matcha involves subjecting the leaves to a Steam bath and separate them from the stems. Subsequently, the deveined leaves are ground until a fine, silky powder is obtained.
Each stone mill produces approximately 40g of matcha in just one hour. This traditional and artisanal process not only maximizes the flavor of matcha, but also preserves its characteristic and vibrant green color.

This, in turn, can prevent cardiovascular disease and regulate insulin production. Matcha tea can also help reduce blood pressure and lipid absorption, protect the liver, and prevent oral problems thanks to its antibacterial properties.
